A World of Celebrations!

One of my favorite things about the holidays is learning about all the different traditions everyone has. Whether it be matching pajamas or decorating the tree while sipping hot cocoa and listening to Christmas music, every family celebrates in a way that is unique and special to them.

In fact, the traditions I hold with my family today are the culmination of those I celebrated with my family when I was a kid, those I learned from friends, what I married into, and even a few I came across on my own.

I love hearing about how people choose to celebrate, so I thought it would be fun to share a few common traditions from people around the world.

  • New Zealand – Their version of a Christmas tree is the Pohutukawa, a coastal species that blooms a bright red color in December.
  • Japan - KFC® is the traditional Christmas dinner!
  • Denmark – On December 24th, they move their Christmas tree to the middle of the room and dance around it while singing carols.
  • Netherlands – Kids leave their shoes by the fireplace or back door on Christmas Eve.   The next morning they are filled with treats!
  • El Salvador – Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are celebrated with fireworks.
