The Luck All Around Us
This St. Patrick’s Day, you might take out a piece of green clothing for luck (or to keep from getting pinched). Maybe you’ll peer down into the grass in hopes of spotting a four-leaf clover or tell a youngster a pot of gold is at the end of that rainbow overhead. Even for those without a single Irish ancestor in our family tree, the holiday is widely thought of as a celebration of luck.
Then again, some days it’s hard to feel lucky. You’ve probably read a headline or two recently that makes you wonder what the world is coming to. I know I’ve been feeling that way a lot lately. But there’s still a lot of luck in this world…if you know where to look for it.
It’s pretty lucky, after all, to have a soft, warm bed to sleep in. Snuggling up with a family pet sure feels lucky. You know the feeling when the song playing in your car ends just as you reach your destination? That always seems like a sign of good luck. When the clouds part, and the sun comes out just in time for us to do our favorite outdoor activity? It’s like a leprechaun is looking out for us!
And when I’m surrounded by loved ones, I feel like the luckiest person in the world.
Now, as nice as it would be if a soft bed or a sunny day could solve the world’s problems, that’s unfortunately not the case. If we’re being honest, even a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow would only go so far, given inflation and all. But life’s about more than just big, sweeping issues, as important as they may be. It’s also about the little things; the small moments life gives us to celebrate, enjoy, and treasure.
That’s why this St. Patrick’s Day, I hope you’ll join me in paying special attention to all those incredible little bits of luck all around us. The funny thing about finding luck is that once you spot a little, it’s easier to find a little more, even in places you least expect it. We’re all generally much luckier than we think we are. And by the time you pull out that green shirt or wash down your corned beef with a little green beer, you, too, might feel like the luckiest person in the world.
Yes, there’s a lot of luck in this world for us to get our hands on. So, on behalf of everyone on my team, I wish you a great — and lucky — St. Patrick’s Day!
Sincerely yours,
